Piano Placement, Storage & Accessories
PIANO PLACEMENT
Here are some helpful hints on where to place your piano.
Because pianos are made primarily of wood, and are under a great amount of pressure, they
are very susceptible to damage as a result of changes in humidity and temperature. Therefore, you will want to place your
piano in the most stable location. Try to keep your piano away from heat registers, cold air registers, and cold air return
registers. Keep your piano away from doors, windows, fireplaces and uninsulated outside walls. Also avoid placing your piano
in direct sun light. If you have to store your piano for a period of time, do so only in a climate-controlled building. NEVER
store a piano in a garage or a porch that is not climate-controlled. Although it may not be possible to avoid putting your
piano in a location that may not be ideal, the point is to do your best to avoid as much potential damage as possible that
may be due to factors such as changes in temperature and/or humidity. Always consult your professional piano technician for
more details.

PIANO ACCESSORIES
When a piano technician comes to your home to tune your piano, he/she may introduce you to
some piano accessories, available from various piano supply houses.
Some of these accessories may include wood caster cups to protect your carpet or hard wood
floors, cleaning products for the piano keys and outside finishes; a variety of piano benches, piano covers and lamps; humidity
control systems and several other general piano products, all of which enhance the attractiveness of your piano. If your piano
technician does not have something you need, he/she most likely will be able to get it for you. Your piano technician may
even have a catalog from one of the supply vendors so you can see what you're ordering. You can even ask your piano technician
if he/she can recommend any self-instructional piano methods with regard to learning how to play the piano.
